KSA #14-- School Involvement
Description: the importance of contributing, independently and collegially, to the quality of their school. They know the strategies whereby they can, independently and collegially, enhance and maintain the quality of their schools to the benefit of students, parents, community and colleagues
In many of my practicums, I had the opportunity to be involved in so many different activities. Some, much easier that others to be involved with. I found that the ease of being involved in activities was directly correlated with the dynamic of the school. For example in PSIII it was really easy for me to get involved in activities at MMH because there were a variety of activities to take part in, but also everyone was so welcoming and encouraged participation. It made all of the extra curricular activities so fun

Examples of my school Involvement
PSI
I participated in a healthy initiative club where we promoted walking and running to our students. Since every student was bussed into the school from a farm, they never had the chance to walk to school, or ride their bikes. So my teacher associate did a walking and running club at lunch time, where the students would eat their lunches first and then head outside for some activity time! |
PSII
Every monday, the chemistry intern and I would have a thing called Molecule Mondays. Each monday, we would come to school dressed up as a different molecule. We got so excited to make T-shirts each week that eventually our passion shined through an her Chem 20 and 30 students got really excited and wanted to take part in it as well. In the end we had kids dressed up as Caffeine, TNT, serotonin, dopamine, etc. It was great. |
PSIII
As I stated above, my opportunities for participating in a variety of extra curricular activities was endless at MMH. I took part in after school skating, floor hockey and grade 4 Drama Club. These allowed me to get to know other students in the schools and establish relationships with students in the older grades. I also made sure to attend events in the evenings at the school including the Fairy Tale themed dance, celebration of learning, and the grade 5's Ordinary Heroes, presentation night. |
