KSA #12-- Parental Involvment
Definition: the importance of engaging parents, purposefully and meaningfully, in all aspects of teaching and learning. They know how to develop and implement strategies that create and enhance partnerships among teachers, parents and students
It is important to me to have parental involvement in my classroom. This being said, there are numerous ways I see positive parental involvement. The most dominate one for me, is that I would like the lines of communication to be open between teacher and parent. I believe that if you build a positive rapport with parents, and show them that you truly care about their child, it makes conversations about issues that may arise a little bit easier.
Parental involvement in my PSIII classroom looked like:
-organizing Home Reading
-chaperoning field trips
-driving for events
-attending special assemblies
-etc.

Celebration of Learning
This evening event was a wonderful opportunity for parents to come into the classroom and "celebrate" their child's successes! It was very neat to see the students become the teachers as they guided their parents through science experiments, math games, social studies lapbooks and story writing for Language Arts. This event took place of parent teacher interviews, and because it was such a positive atmosphere (because positive rapport was built between my mentor and the parents) parents were overjoyed by their child's work that they felt this night sufficed in place of the standard interview. |
